Design and Integration of a Cooling System for Openversum's Water Filtration Technology

This thesis presents the design and development of a cooling system for integration into Openversum’s water filtration technology, aimed at improving user experience in low- and middle-income regions. Peltier thermoelectric modules were selected for their maintenance-free operation and ease of integration, with candidate designs modeled in SolidWorks and evaluated using computational fluid dynamics simulations. Two physical prototypes were manufactured and tested with temperature sensors to validate simulation results. The first prototype, a single aluminum block, reduced water temperature by about 10 °C but suffered from limited heat absorption. A second prototype with subdivided cooling channels increased surface area and achieved a 15 °C reduction, cooling 200 ml of water to 13 °C below ambient, at moderately higher manufacturing cost.
