Professional Summary
Engineer and researcher with a PhD in cryogenics, alumnus of two EU H2020 programmes and the Marie Skłodowska-Curie network. Several years of R&D on scientific instruments and optimization techniques, applied to large-scale projects for the Future Circular Collider and the European Spallation Source in collaboration with NIST and Air Liquide. Now building low-cost instrumentation and appropriate technology for global health engineering at ETH Zürich.
Experience
-
2023 - Zürich, Switzerland
Senior Researcher
Global Health Engineering, ETH Zürich
Lead the biogas-sensing project and a team of research assistants developing low-cost biogas flow and composition sensors.
- Lead the low-cost biogas flow & composition sensing project (patent pending)
- Supervised around fifty BSc/MSc theses in mechanical engineering and thermodynamics
- Introduced a group policy to publish hardware theses under a permissive CC-BY licence
- Designed and equipped two mechanical workshops and a biological laboratory
- Secured funding for biogas technology development in sub-Saharan Africa
-
2022 - 2023 Martigny, Switzerland
Postdoctoral Researcher
Idiap Research Institute
Worked with the speech-recognition team under the EU-funded ROXANNE programme, developing and integrating automatic speech-recognition models for a platform used by criminal investigators at Interpol.
- Trained multilingual speech-recognition models
- Developed online speech-recognition engines and delivered solutions to commercial clients
-
2018 - 2021 Grenoble, France
Marie Skłodowska-Curie Early Stage Researcher
CEA Grenoble
Developed equations of state for mixtures of cryogenic fluids. Established accurate models for noble-gas mixtures through non-linear fitting followed by experimental confirmation, and extended the work to a helium–nitrogen equation of state for industry.
- Reference equations of state for helium, neon and argon mixtures
- Combined non-linear optimization with experimental validation
-
2020 - 2020 Sassenage, France
Visiting Scholar
Air Liquide Advanced Technologies
Developed the helium–nitrogen equation of state used for the process-cycle design of a Brayton-cycle refrigerator within the EASITrain H2020 programme.
-
2019 - 2019 Boulder, Colorado, USA
Visiting Scholar
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
In the Thermophysical Properties of Fluids Group, collected and analysed data for equations of state of cryogenic helium, neon and argon mixtures, and assessed the feasibility of equations of state for quantum mixtures.
-
2017 - 2018 Dresden, Germany
Mechanical Engineer
Technische Universität Dresden
Worked on the Cryogenic Moderator System for the European Spallation Source (ESS): thermal calculations, equipment procurement, control-system design, and factory-acceptance-test planning for the complete cryostat and its liquid-hydrogen pumps, focusing on redundant pressure control under variable neutron load (APEX safety standards).
-
2015 - 2016 Grenoble, France
Research Intern, then Research Engineer
CEA Grenoble
Studied magnetic refrigeration for the FCC-ee. Produced a feasibility study of kW-range superfluid-helium refrigeration down to 1.6 K for high-field superconducting RF cavities, and the conceptual design of a laboratory-scale prototype.
-
2013 - 2015 Warsaw, Poland
Physics & Robotics Lab Assistant
Copernicus Science Center
Ran classes with students and teachers in crystallography, superconductivity, optics, magnetism, robotics and programming.
Education
