Magnetic refrigeration for the Future Circular Collider

Feasibility of 1.6 K superfluid-helium magnetic refrigeration for the FCC-ee

As a research engineer at CEA Grenoble I studied magnetic refrigeration for the FCC-ee, CERN’s proposed next-generation lepton collider. The goal was a feasibility study of kW-range superfluid-helium refrigeration down to 1.6 K to cool high-field superconducting radio-frequency cavities. The work combined mathematical modelling of the thermodynamic cycle with the conceptual and technical design of a small-scale laboratory prototype. It became my first peer-reviewed paper and the subject of my master’s thesis.
